Bus-truck collision kills 14 in western Kenya

NAKURU, Kenya – Fourteen people were killed when a truck rammed into a minibus early Friday in western Kenya, authorities said.

Nine men, four women and one child died in the collision that occurred at 3:00 a.m. local time on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway, police spokesman Michael Muchiri said.

He said all 12 people on the minibus, including the driver, were killed in the tragedy, in addition to two aboard the truck.

Muchiri said preliminary findings show the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle, which ran into the bus and dragged it for a while, trapping those on board.

Road accidents kill about 4,000 people a year in Kenya, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority.
